I am a Command Master Chief (CMC) in the Navy and in the civilian sector my position would be Human Resource Manager. In my position I am responsible for providing input in the creation, implementation, and execution of policies concerning morale, job satisfaction, discipline, family support and training of enlisted Sailors, as well as providing input and advice in matters that effect the execution of mission and operations. I am planning on going into the human resource management field when I retire.
In the execution of my duties I often have to relate stories to my commanding officer concerning personnel matters and issues concerning policies in the day to day operations of the command. I also need to relate events to the commanding officer concerning material issues, equipment issues, and situations involving our personnel.
Good narrative skills are imperative in relating the events and stories concerning the vast spectrum of matters I encounter in the execution of my duties. I frequently need to tell a story in a concise chronological order to provide the commanding officer with situational awareness with the key points in mind.
